Pivot to Virtual

2020 Virtual Programs and Projects

2020

For the past 15 years, Creative Santa Fe has been dedicated to bringing people together through collaboration and the power of the arts to innovatively problem solve critical issues facing our community. In this strange new time of social distancing we recognize that our communities — now more than ever — need connection, inspiration and economic support. To that end, we have reworked all of our 2020 programming to create initiatives that connect our community, bring much needed joy and inspiration to our lives, and raise critical funds to aid and support those in need.

We see a tremendous opportunity to envision a new world on the other side of this crisis.  In the words of Eric Klinenberg, Director of the Institute for Public Knowledge at New York University:

The coronavirus pandemic is going to cause immense pain and suffering. But it will force us to reconsider who we are and what we value, and, in the long run, it could help us rediscover the better version of ourselves.

#imaginationfound

The Imagination Found social media campaign is designed to highlight and celebrate the incredible creativity that has grown as a result of global Covid-19 social distancing ordinances. This project recognizes the creativity and inspiration people are finding — in themselves and in their communities — that brings them joy, inspiration and hope in this time of solitude. Ranging from culinary arts, crafts, dance, music, new skills, innovative technologies, and so much more… the creativity and imagination that has risen from this dark moment is a bright light to be celebrated. Social media audiences will share the creativity they are embracing through posts and descriptions. This project is a collaboration between Creative Santa Fe and DENT the Future, Black Mountain Institute, Tania Katan, and Invisible City Designs.

Creative Santa Fe is proud to partner with the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs and the City of Santa Fe Arts and Culture Department to virtually host Clayton Lord, Vice President of Strategic Impact at American for the Arts (AFTA) in local dialogue. His virtual public talk, A Vibrant Community Has Culture At the Core, will address the social and economic impact of the arts and creativity in communities across the U.S. and how the arts are creating a new generation of community leaders. His presentation will be followed by a virtual panel discussion with key arts leaders in our community. In his role at AFTA, Clayton oversees initiatives focused on cultural equity, diversity, and inclusion, including the Arts + Social Impact Explorer, the organization’s ongoing work around cultural equity, equity in arts leadership, and arts-based community development. Clayton also led the New Community Visions Initiative, a multi-year effort to better understand and support the changing role of the arts in American communities.

Friday, May 8, 2020 from 8:00-10:00 PM, Friday May 15th from 7:00-8:00 PM
New Mexico has always been a vibrant beacon of arts and culture. Santa Fe specifically is recognized globally for its diverse and accomplished arts communities — visual, music, performing, culinary, film, and more. COVID-19 has already had a devastating impact on our community, and we fear the worst is yet to come.

small team of community leaders led by Creative Santa Fe has come together to make a difference. The team, which includes Noise for Now, Bernlore, Whisper to a Dream, Filmindie, and Rook SEO assembled a major multidisciplinary digital arts festival titled Virtual LemonAid, leveraging the creative talent of our region to raise critical funds to provide aid and support to those most in need in our community. The original show featured 37 professional artists and 24 students who performed music, poetry, and dance. The show was broadcast on social media channels and SFCTV-16 (Comcast) on May 8, 2020. Over 7,000 people tuned in to watch and donate. Due to the incredible impact of the show and the outpouring of interest from local artists, a second show called ‘Bonus Tracks‘ was assembled and aired the following week, showcasing the talent of ten new artists.

Over $50,000 was raised toward the fundraising goal within two weeks of the broadcast of the original show. 20% of the funds raised are being split evenly between participating artists. The remaining 80% of funds are being divided between the All Together New Mexico Fund and the Santa Fe County Connect Fund. Both funds will be used to address immediate needs of New Mexicans affected by the Covid-19 crisis.
